I said, “I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a muzzle, so long as the wicked are in my presence.” Psalms 39:1 ESV

The wicked is anyone who sins, encourages and or leads you into sin. Our text reveals the immunization against and security for sin.

The easiest path to sin is through utterances. Caution in speech and action before the wicked therefore becomes the best immunization and security against sin. Speeches determine what’s heard, which determines what’s processed and desired by the mind as well as executed by the body. What you say to or before the wicked determines what you’ll hear back from him. Whatever you hear, your mind processes according to its state at the given moment. Two security measures against sinning are, saturating your mind with the Word and guarding your utterance especially before the wicked. Your utterance, which is simply an overflow of your heart condition, will either betray or preserve you, lead you to or save you from sin!
