And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ Luke 13:7 ESV

Fruitlessness or unproductivity is annoyingly disappointing and irritating. Our text reveals it’s consequence and reward.

Beloved to cut down is to eliminate, remove, punctuate, bring to non existence or destruction. No sane person makes an unproductive investment because it defeats the essence. Cutting down or destruction is the last option to every unfruitfulness when all effort to bring a change, and repentance fails. Cutting down only happens at the command of the vineyard owner. If you remain unfruitful and unproductive to the Lord, He’ll be left with no option than to bring destruction on you. Similarly, you’re to punctuate and eliminate every unproductive and unfruitful “fig tree”, association, relationship or investment in your life!
