And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given. Matthew 14:9 ESV

Excuses are reasons and arguments against or for, which “because” or “but” usually introduce in a sentence. Our text reveals Herod and his “because”.

Beloved, “because” is a game changer which have ruined a lot of people than it has preserved. A man’s “because” determines his action(s). Since every man’s way is always right to him, whatever negativity you set your heart to do, the devil will very easily help you find a “because” or an excuse for. Many today very easily find a “because” to disobey God like Herod. The challenge however is, whether your excuse is excusable before God or not? Whatever “because” that contradicts the Word of God, is found wanting in His scale. Whatever is found wanting in His scale can’t be justified by Him. Whatever that’s not justified by Him, spells woe and doom! What does your “because” weigh in God’s balance?

Grace upon grace!
