The soldiers led Jesus away. At that same time there was a man from Cyrene named Simon coming into the city from the fields. The soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross and walk behind him. Luke 23:26 ERV

Compulsion, the act of driving or urging another is very synonymous with soldiers and our text reveals this being done to Simon of Cyrene.

Beloved, in as much as compulsion is not usually very appealing, it’s sometimes the only option for productivity. Jesus became very weak and couldn’t move under the weight of the cross. He must get to Calvary and be crucified for salvation to be possible, therefore He needed help to carry the cross which no one was willing to offer. Simon’s consent to the compulsion, helped Jesus fulfill His destiny. Every destiny has crosses and strictures which others must help to overcome. Since destinies are interwoven, helping others carry their crosses equals helping yourself. Simon never remained the same after carrying the cross, neither the soldiers that compelled him. Look out today for crosses to help others carry to fulfill destiny.
