Saul and his men spared Agag’s life and kept the best of the sheep and goats, the cattle, the fat calves, and the lambs—everything, in fact, that appealed to them. They destroyed only what was worthless or of poor quality. 1 Samuel 15:9 NLT
The concept of being smarter and wiser than God is ridiculous but unfortunately the thought of many. Our text reveals Saul displaying this attitude, when he spared Agag, and the things devoted to destruction in the battle against the Amalekites. His argument was useless because it ran contrary to God’s instruction.
Beloved, you have reasons for every action you take or don’t take. However, whenever your actions run counter to God’s instructions, whenever you spare the Agag and things devoted to destruction in your life, you’re in error, and it pitches you against God. Such rejection of God’s word, means His rejection and results in your rejection too. Examine yourself today and see if there are things devoted to destruction, not meant to live you’re sparing. Destroy them today or they’ll destroy you!
Grace upon grace!
